Documentation/information required for the renewal of self-defence motivations

Checklist of required documentation and information:

-All weapon details: Make, Serial number, Calibre & MODEL, (please note that the model is also of the utmost importance to complete the motivation).
-Copy of your ID and your full residential address with postal code.
-Personal contact details (Cell, Home, Work, E-mail)
-Please indicate which police station serves the area that you reside and work in.
-An employment confirmation letter from your company/firm written on a letterhead, stating that you are employed. If possible, please let the letter include the high-risk environment or job that your duties include. The following are examples of such duties that could include situations such as:
- That you work late at night, travel alone, travel to far remote areas
- That you open/close early mornings and late nights
- That you travel with expensive equipment (laptop, spares or products)
- That you do the banking for the firm and/or pay wages
- That you travel with cash to purchase goods or spares, pay clients/suppliers with cash
- That you work in day/night shifts and/or work overtime
- If you were a victim of crime. If so, the SAPS case number and police station would be helpful.
- NB: Kindly note that the company that you are working for doesn’t need to know that the letter is for a firearm application. The letter is merely proof that your life as at more risk than a person that is not working. Highlighting your duties helps to prove this fact in your motivation.
-NB: If you are self-employed, please provide proof (CK/CC docs) and also include an employment confirmation letter on a letterhead stating what your duties are that could put your life at risk./ If you are self-employed and not registered, kindly provide us with an affidavit stating what you do for a living.
-A copy of the current licence that needs to be renewed.
Re-Licencing:
- When did your existing licence expire?

If it has expired, it will be a new firearm motivation and not a renewal, therefore please refer to the Self Defense Motivation page

Also send us a copy of the EXPIRED LICENCE.
- Do you still have the old “green” card or licence in your ID book?
- Did SAPS notify you that your licence has expired and when?
-Please send all of the above, along with your proof of payment, to my personal assistant at vaneedend@gmail.com in order for me to complete the motivation within 3 working days. If you haven’t received your motivation within 3 working days, please contact me on my cell.
-If you struggle to get through to me, kindly note that the networks are a problem with loadshedding. The best way to contact me would be to send a whatsapp message or to call on whatsapp. There is a chance that your motivation could have been sent to your spam folder due to having the word ‘firearm’ mentioned in the subject line.
